Paolo Soprani
In 1863, a visiting Austrian pilgrim played a unique musical instrument at the home of Antonio and Lucia Soprani in Castelfidardo, Italy. Fascinated by this "accordeon," their son Paolo studied it intently. Inspired, Paolo opened a small workshop in 1864, making and selling his own accordions, or "armoniche."
By 1872, Paolo had moved his growing business to Piazza Garibaldi, where his accordions quickly gained popularity, especially among local farmers and in other European countries. By the late 19th century, his accordions were being exported to the USA, bringing comfort to Italian immigrants.
To meet increasing demand, Paolo, along with his sons Luigi and Achille, opened a larger factory employing about 400 workers. Their success surged in 1900 earning Paolo memberships in prestigious inventor academies and recognition from the President of France.
Today, PASCO ITALIA SRL continues his legacy with the motto “innovation through tradition,” blending modern technology with artisanal craftsmanship to create their distinctive accordions.
